Making a Budget

What is a budget?
A budget is a plan you write down to decide how to spend your money during a particular time frame, usually a month.

Why would I want a budget?
A budget can help you determine what you NEED to spend your money on versus what you current spend you money on. It can help you meet your financial requirements such as bills and other expenses. It can also assist you with saving money, that you may use for a major investment, vacation or purchase. A budget can allow you to see where you money is going so that you can better control it. This will lead to less stress and a happier YOU.

A budget shows you:
  • How much money you make.
  • How much money you spend.

How to Start
  1. Gather all your paystubs, various forms of income documents and bills.
  2. Write down how much money you make (income, monthly gifts, etc.)
  3. Write down all your expenses (static bills like rent, fluctuating expenses like groceries, etc.) and their due dates.

Examples and Templates of documents are below for your convenience.
