The Black Pillars: 5 Agenda Initiatives for Our Communities
|
If an individual sits down and analyzes all the social, economic, and political trends of the last couple of decades, they will be forced
to concede that there have been minimal changes for Black people as a whole
within the United States. Many of the same problems which existed during the
1960s & 1970s remain prevalent today. Yes, there have been some individual
gains and we don’t want to diminish those individuals success, but that isn’t
the norm and it would be considered an extremity or abnormally when discussing
statistics.
Whether we are talking about Poverty (PDF), Unemployment, Adequate Representation in Government, Police Brutality (PDF), Education, etc. the same issues still persist. If we sit down and examine a majority of the issues, they all seem to stem from a top down exertion of power. |
What does this tell us? This tells
us that certain people want things to be a certain way. This also tells us that
if we don’t create our own demands and acting on our own then there will be no
measure of change, since we can’t depend on the same people who want things to
remain in an undesired state to dictate the “solutions.”
It’s time for us to deliver demands that aren’t abstract terms like justice and equality but ones that have tangible goals and metrics attach to them. When we are dealing with people who are in power this is essential to our success. As Frederick Douglass said, "Power concedes nothing without a demand."
It’s time for us to make our demands known, similar to every other demographic in the United States. It’s time for us to deliver the Black Agenda, in order to ensure that we are receiving a return on our investment and that our demands have tangible goals/metrics attach to them.
We believe that there are 4 main facets (Economics, Education, Politics and Social) that need to be addressed within Black neighborhoods and across the country/world to increase the quality of life of individuals as a whole.
In order to address these areas, we recommend and intend to deliver demands to 4 target pillars within the neighborhoods (Politicians, Community institutions, Educational sector and Small Businesses.) If a pillar in the community is unable to meet the community needs then they don't have a place in the neighborhood and their services will no longer be warranted.
These "pillars" are elected by residents, funded via taxes, funded via residents donations and/or funded by residents purchases. All of those factors dictate that residents within a neighborhoods allow and choose via an investment for them to exist. Therefore, its our responsibility to ensure that they are serving the neighborhood effectively. We have to responsible move as a society and unit to change our neighborhoods into communities that benefit local residents.
The above mentioned tangible goals are just a sample (draft) of the projected tangible goals to begin the process of getting ideas flowing and showing individuals how this strategy would work within its respective neighborhoods. The list, proper functions and expectations per demand will be expanded upon once we are able to obtain feedback. At that point a final version will be produced along with a detailed PDF and flyer for distribution. Remember, you have to plant a seed today, if you want to bear the fruit tomorrow.
Questions to consider:
What tangible goals do you believe needs to be added?
Do you think there are other pillars in the neighborhoods which should be incorporated into the vein diagram?
Additional Ideas?
Proposed 21st Century Agenda for Jobs and Reform by "Civil Rights organizations."
